Parent Participation Preschool

Preparing the Next Generation

Children are like sponges – they watch and absorb knowledge, skills, and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Armed Services Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. That makes for confident kids today, and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Parent Participation Preschool Overview

Armed Services YMCA Hawaii Early Childhood Education programs strengthen military family support systems by decreasing isolation, connecting families with their community, and developing strong social networks, while at the same time making certain children have a strong early education foundation. This is especially critical for military families new to the island, new to parenting, or experiencing deployment.

Parent Participation Preschool helps military children ease into this new chapter of their lives by working alongside both their parent and teacher. This academic and theme-based, multi-sensory preschool is a three-phase program for children ages 3 to 5 years old and is designed to introduce children to a structured learning environment covering math, science, phonics, and writing.

We believe that all military children deserve access to high-quality programs that nurture their social, emotional, physical and academic development; programs that provide them with a safe and nurturing environment, access to caring and invested adults and access to engaging enrichment activities. Our early childhood education programs follow YMCA of the USA Infant-Toddler and Pre-school Guidelines, use evidence-based curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices that play a vital role in helping children achieve their fullest potential.

Children enrolled in a high-quality Child Development program:

  • receive quality early education that fosters cognitive and socioemotional growth;
  • build the cognitive and character skills that children need to do well in school and in life, including attentiveness, persistence, impulse control, and sociability;
  • build foundations for long-term success in life;
  • are more likely to earn higher wages, live healthier lives, and raise stronger families.

Parent Participation Preschool incorporates Hawaii’s Early Learning and Development Standards, as well Second Step Social Emotional Learning, and Creative Curriculum. ASYMCA Hawaii teachers also incorporate STEAM into the curriculum to help young minds develop crucial communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Class curriculum details are discussed during new student/parent orientation.

Parent participation is a key component of enrollment and involves a parent or guardian volunteering during class hours on a rotating schedule. Participation is mandatory.
